FRENCH CONSUMERS PURCHASE MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY ONLINE!
IN NUMBERS
Fevad has just completed an assessment of online sales in France in the first quarter of 2017. And again, they are upwards: + 14.2%.
In the first three months of this year, Internet sales reached € 20 billion, $ 2.5 billion more from last year. This growth was driven by a sharp increase in the number of transactions (+ 20.5% over the period), or 290 million transactions during the quarter. Over the past two years, the average quarterly growth in online transactions (products and services) has been 23%. Today, more than 36 million French command online, it's 1 million more than a year ago (Source: Médiamétrie). But it is mainly the frequency of purchase that continues to increase very significantly: + 13%. An online buyer now realizes on average more than 9 transactions per quarter against 7 two years ago. In total, nearly 650 euros were spent on average per buyer in the quarter. This trend is accompanied by a further decline in the average basket, which remains below the € 70 mark, down 5% (€ 69 vs. € 73 in the first quarter of 2016).
